What are the major differences in these companies: TCS, Wipro, Cognizant, Infosys versus Google, Microsoft, Oracle?

Recently I met a Person Who is Working More than 4-5 years in Programming Computer Science Field...
He have Experience to work with Service Based Company ( TCS ) and Product Based Company ( Oracle ).
He give answer of some interesting questions as well as share his experience with us..
Lets check it out..

Difference: Huge Difference.
I worked in TCS for almost 3 years; Now working in Oracle(I will be completing 2 years in the next week).
Technical Difference:
  1. TCS is service based company. Oracle is product based. What does it mean? Let’s say, Oracle makes a product "X" and sells it to its client "A". But, after installation, who will support the product? TCS.
  2. Companies like TCS, Infosys undertake projects for big enterprises for their maintenance and support and build systems for them. Whereas, companies like Oracle, Microsoft build products which are kind of universal for every domain. For any Customization of those products, they need partners like Infosys, Cognizant or TCS.
Infrastructure Difference:
  1. Very Poor Vs Very Good. (Both of them have very good buildings which the outside world can see). But only when you work for them, will you clearly see the difference.
  2. Service companies: They have so many employees that they cannot provide Laptops/Desktops or Desk Phones to all of them. When I was working for TCS, one desk phone was shared among 4 employees. Making STD calls needs prior approval. For a project that had 800 employees working on it, there was only one VOIP connection to make ISD calls. Sometimes, people quarreled for chairs too!
  3. On the other side, fewer employees in product based companies have all the benefits one can think of along with unrestricted access to anything & everything. Brand New Laptops (In TCS, you could get laptops that are almost 5 years old! ), Desk Phones with VOIP connection and what not. (I can call anyone in the world without needing any approval).
  4. When it comes to day-t0-day work life, there are too many limitations in TCS (One cannot surf websites apart from Google and Intranet sites). While working on some projects, you aren’t allowed to carry your mobile phones. Sometimes, they are too much "Chindi" (In technical Term Cost Cutting), they use almost every open source available in the world. And even if you want to install Mozilla or Notepad++, you will have to take approval, which will take 2-3 days to get approved.
  5. In Oracle, you have the liberty to use any software. If it is a paid one, you will get approved within an hour and it will be available for your use in your system.

Employee Benefit Difference:
  1. Huge salary difference. Huge difference in Bonus and Perks.
  2. You are slave(No Work life balance) in service based. I have worked continuous 36 hours in the office,(I know many people who worked more than that to me).
  3. For leaves, weekends its up to your manager if they call you in the weekends or in your leave you will have to be there.
  4. No extra bonus if you come in the weekends or in holiday(Its charity), in some projects they give some perks but not in mine.
Employee Difference:

  1. You only need B.Tech degree from any stream or branch and you are eligible to work for service based company.
  2. Even though you have B.Tech degree, you will do a work which can be done by 10th pass student.
  3. For product based, they don’t compromise with your technical knowledge. (you will have to be sound knowledge in your domain).
  4. Huge No. of Employee(If I add no of Employees working In Mumbai and Pune for TCS only, it might match total no of employee working in India).
  5. When you work for product based company, you will work with brightest mind the country(IIT/IIM passed out), you will learn a lot. That is not going to happen with any service based company.
Hope this will help to all of you..
